Literature reports a SAG circuit without a pebble crusher tends to consume 5% more energy than the equivalent circuit with a pebble crusher (see Starkey & Dobby, SAG 96 paper). Another reference, Crawford & Manton, AusIMM Mill Op Conf 2009, reports a >20% drop in SAG throughput when uncrushed pebbles are returned to the SAG mill.
