What is a Wiki?

A Wiki is an online document consisting of a collection of pages of information, often containing links to related pages. What you are reading is a page, and this is an example link to the Main Page (notice the words "Main Page" are a different colour and might be underlined in your web browser; that signifies a link). Best way to think of a Wiki is as a constantly changing online book.

How do I edit a page?

The pages and links of a Wiki can usually be edited by web users, but in our case, the editing functions are limited to staff and a few trusted gurus.

If you are an editor, this list of formatting codes and tips is very useful: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Formatting

Help, I'm lost

Because a Wiki is not linear (as a book would be, one page follows another), don't feel badly if you get tied in knots trying to find something. There are at least two ways to find whatever it is you are looking for.

  • First is to return to the Main Page and work your way down through the options.
  • Second is you can use the search bar at the top of all the pages to quickly look for a particular topic. If you don't get the spelling exactly right, you will usually see the available pages that are somewhat close.

Still can't find what you want? Hopefully the topic you are looking for exists, but there are no guarantees because this documentation is constantly evolving and the topic you are looking either may not exist yet, or hasn't been identified as something that we need. You can help by letting one of the Gurus know that a topic is needed (or that you can't find it).
